Cambodian Students Awaiting Evacuation in Sudan

SUDAN: The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sok Khoeun, confirmed that the Cambodian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt has coordinated with the Malaysian Embassy to evacuate Cambodian students from Sudan.

Sok Khoeun confirmed that six Cambodian students, including two women, are enrolled at a university in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum. According to Sok Khoeun, the university gathered all foreign students in one place after a violent battle erupted between rival military factions in Khartoum on 15 April.

He claimed that the Cambodian and Malaysian students are currently in a safe place, awaiting an immediate evacuation from Sudan. "As of the night of 24 April 2023, the Malaysian government is coordinating with the relevant parties to decide on the means of departure from Sudan as soon as possible," he said.
